Tagup is a markup language with basic templating functionality. It's heavily inspired by Mediawiki Templates, though with a more casual use-case in mind.

The reason I created it in the first place was specifically for this blog. While I prefer using Markdown most of the time, I dislike its lack of extensibility and varied syntax. There's also BBCode which is more extensible and has a more unified syntax, but it's also a little too verbose for my liking.

For the time being, Tagup is a pet project of mine that I intend to tweak as I use- regarding both the language specification and the reference Python implementation. Anyone is welcome to create their own implementation of Tagup with arbitrary changes to the specification for any purpose without prior approval from me.
